Softball Recap: Liberty Indians vs. Beacon Bulldogs
Liberty extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Beacon Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-6 last Thursday.
Liberty saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameryn Will, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Addison Bury also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Beacon, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Beacon's side, Kat Ruffy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Ruffy a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Meg Nicholson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Aslyn Way was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Coming up, Liberty will face off against Sullivan West at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Beacon, they will take on Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
