Baseball Recap: Moore Comes Up Short

Moore had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it six. They fell just short of the Shawnee Golden Eagles by a score of 22-21. Even if the Mustangs couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Nick Goodman was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Thomas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

As for Shawnee, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

On Shawnee's side, their win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caysen Perkins, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Perkins is becoming a predictor of the Golden Eagles' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5-1 when he doesn't). Arthur Alexander was another, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, Moore will take on Western at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Shawnee, they will square off against Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.4 runs per game on average), something the Golden Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
