Recap: West Johnston Wildcats vs. Corinth Holders Pirates
There's no place like home for the West Johnston Wildcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They took down Corinth Holders 96-79 on Tuesday. Given West Johnston's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while Corinth Holders is ranked 362nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Johnston to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kameron Taylor, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds. Taylor continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dionta'e Williams, who scored 17 points.
Corinth Holders' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Max Carlson, who scored 30 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Carlson scored a full 38% of Corinth Holders' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Sandaire, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
West Johnston's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Corinth Holders, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Johnston will take on Harnett Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Harnett Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday. As for Corinth Holders, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southern Nash at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southern Nash focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
