Baseball Game Preview: Argo Argonauts vs. Hubbard Greyhounds

Argo has gone a perfect 5-0 against Hubbard recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Argonauts will look to defend their home field against the Greyhounds at 11:00 a.m. Hubbard took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Argo, who comes in off a win.

Argo took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Thornton Fractional South.

Valente Melero and Scott Forston were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Melero struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Forston tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Melero a new career-high. At the plate, Melero got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Forston went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cristo Fernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Hubbard's offense. They lost 11-0 to Hancock on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Greyhounds' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Hubbard has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-6-1 record this season. As for Argo, their win bumped their record up to 9-13.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Argo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hubbard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Argo's way against Hubbard in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, as Argo made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Argonauts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greyhounds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
