Softball Recap: Rio Grande Comes Up Short

Rio Grande lost against West Mesa back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ravens lost 16-5 to the Mustangs. The Ravens have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mercedes Valenzuela was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mya Peralta, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Rio Grande's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for West Mesa, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-13.

Coming up, Rio Grande will host Albuquerque Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for West Mesa, they will head out to face off against Albuquerque at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
