The Farmington River Hawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Lewis Mills Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Farmington has three straight victories, Lewis Mills has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Farmington beats Lewis Mills with six runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The River Hawks walked away with a 6-3 win over Northwest Catholic on Monday.
Noah Grosso made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Tomkiewicz, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jake Percival, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Farmington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lewis Mills fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Canton on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-5 to the Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Lewis Mills' defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Farmington, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Farmington couldn't quite finish off Lewis Mills when the teams last played back in April of 2022 and fell 12-10. Can the River Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
