Baseball Game Preview: Heights Bulldogs vs. Memorial Mustangs

The Heights Bulldogs will face off against the Memorial Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Heights took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Houston Math Science & Tech an 8-0 shutout. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st (when they won 11-0).

Jose Garcia and Ryan Soto did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Soto got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most RBI Garcia has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mateo Quintanilla, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Heights hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston Math Science & Tech struck out six times.

Meanwhile, Memorial had already won 20 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 21 on Friday. They blew past the Spartans 9-2.

Memorial pushed their record up to 25-3-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Heights, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.
