Soccer Game Preview: Memorial vs. Southeast

The Memorial Chargers will head out to square off against the Southeast Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial's last five contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

If Memorial beats Southeast with two goals on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Chargers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Will Rogers College on Wednesday. That's two games straight that Memorial have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Southeast had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their defense stepped up to hand Carl Albert a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for Southeast, who have now won seven games in a row.

Southeast's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those four contests. As for Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Memorial took their win against Southeast when the teams last played back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 4-1 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
