Recap: Luther Cougars vs. Woodmere Academy
After flying high against the Renaissance Knights last Saturday, the Luther Cougars came back down to earth. The game between Luther and Woodmere Academy wasn't particularly close, with Luther falling 80-66. While losing is never fun, Luther can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Woodmere Academy is ranked 155th).
Despite the loss, Luther still got an impressive performance from Gavin Hugine, who scored 24 points along with three steals. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Trail, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Luther now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Woodmere Academy, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Luther's road trip will continue as they head out to face Schechter at 4:15 p.m. on January 9th. Woodmere Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Friends Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 24th.
