Softball Game Preview: Hondo Owls vs. Sabinal Yellowjackets

The Hondo Owls will square off against the Sabinal Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hondo will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Hondo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over Junction on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Owls with their most commanding win of the season.

Rebecca Rubio looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, Hondo got a massive performance out of Miya Lathe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, Lathe posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ainsley Bohlen, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Hondo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Sabinal didn't have quite enough to beat D'Hanis on Saturday and fell 10-9. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hondo pushed their record up to 5-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sabinal, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Hondo took their win against Sabinal when the teams last played on Saturday by a conclusive 14-1. Does Hondo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sabinal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
