Softball Recap: Hilltop Continues Road Dominance on Monday

The matchup between Hilltop and Tinora on Monday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Cadets were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Rams. Considering the Cadets have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Giada Rising made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hilltop let Kelsy Connolly and Isabella Ackley run wild. Connolly got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Ackley went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave Ackley a new career-high. Libbie Baker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Hilltop's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Tinora, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Hilltop will challenge Holgate at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cadets are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Tinora, they will take on Fairview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Apaches have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
