Football Recap: Bishop Moore Starts Season with Win Against Oviedo

Bishop Moore gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Oviedo Lions, posting a 68-35 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hornets also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Amar'E Johnson went supernova, rushing for 223 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Blake McCullough, who threw for 322 yards and five touchdowns while completing 79.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bishop Moore was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oviedo only rushed for 151 rushing yards.

Bishop Moore's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Oviedo's side was Blaze Allen, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Oviedo lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brock Joyce, who rushed for 91 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also picked up 91 receiving yards and one TD. DaShon Febres was another key player, picking up 124 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Bishop Moore and Oviedo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Hornets will square off against Orlando Christian Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (44 vs. 167). Meanwhile, Oviedo (ranked 97th) will meet Sickles (ranked 424th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
