Softball Game Preview: Turner Lions vs. Newman Smith Trojans

The Turner Lions will face off against the Newman Smith Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Turner's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when The Colony hitters got past them. Turner came up short against The Colony on Tuesday, falling 12-2. The Lions have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meetings.

Turner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Serrano, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Vivian Lewis also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Newman Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 17-0 to Lone Star.

Newman Smith's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Turner, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Turner took their victory against Newman Smith when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. Will Turner repeat their success, or does Newman Smith have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
