Basketball Game Preview: Smithville Warriors vs. Platte County Pirates

The Smithville Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Platte County Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Last Friday, Smithville had to suffer through a 57-25 loss at the hands of Park Hill South. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Panthers are ranked second).

Meanwhile, Platte County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 51-22 win over the Bears. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 24 points or more this season.

Platte County pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Smithville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Smithville came up short against Platte County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 47-35. Can Smithville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
