Softball Game Preview: Roncalli Jets vs. New Holstein Huskies

Roncalli hasn't had much luck against New Holstein recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Jets will head out on the road to face off against the Huskies at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Roncalli proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 16) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Sheboygan Falls get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Jets in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won six in a row.

Madison Lamers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Lamers wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madison Keller, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, New Holstein narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah 3-1.

Like Roncalli, New Holstein also got a great game from a two-way player: Makya Pendleton. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Pendleton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

New Holstein hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah struck out 11 times.

New Holstein has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Roncalli, they pushed their record up to 9-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Roncalli suffered a grim 21-1 defeat to New Holstein when the teams last played back in April. Can the Jets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
