Gateway has gone a perfect 7-0 against Penn Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Gators will take on the Indians at 4:00 p.m. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
While Gateway's win against McKeesport wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Gators had just enough and edged out the Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday. The three-run effort marked the Gators' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Roman Jennings made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Jennings was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Cameron Gottschalk looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Donovan Deluco was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jon Saunders, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Penn Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Greater Latrobe, falling 20-1.
The victory made it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Penn Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Penn Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gateway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .563. It's a different story for Penn Hills, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Gateway's hitters?
Gateway took their victory against Penn Hills in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 18-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
