Softball Recap: Ferndale Golden Eagles vs. Meridian Trojans
Ferndale had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Meridian on Monday. The Golden Eagles never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Charlotte Simon looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ferndale got a massive performance out of Kate Johnston, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Johnston launched this season. Maddy Slevin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Ferndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
