It was a good run, but Van unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was the Athens Hornets who were credited with the win. The Athens Hornets got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to the Van Vandals' two. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vandals of the 4-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Van's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Athens, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Van will welcome Cumberland Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Athens, they will look to defend their home pitch on Tuesday against Grand Saline at 7:30 p.m.
