Baseball Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Manor Mustangs

McNeil has gone a perfect 6-0 against Manor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mavericks will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The last three games McNeil has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

McNeil fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Cedar Ridge on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 7-6.

Justin Sandusky was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He has become a key player for McNeil: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Preston Stone was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Manor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They lost 11-1 to Vista Ridge.

McNeil's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Manor, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.

Everything went McNeil's way against Manor in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as McNeil made off with a 31-2 win. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
