No. 2 Trinity football finishes perfect with another blowout win in Kentucky

Kentucky 6A champions have a valid argument in the quest to be ranked No. 1 in the Xcellent 25.

Nobody in the Trinity (Louisville, Ky.) football program will look back upon the 2011 football season and say "We could have done more."

The Shamrocks (14-0) took on some of the top teams in their part of the nation, hit the road to play some of those games, blasted through their Kentucky schedule and, on Friday, waltzed to the Kentucky 6A title with a dominating 62-21 victory over Scott County.

Trinity holds the No. 2 spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings behind Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.). A loss by the Ironmen would have made the Shamrocks the easy choice for the top spot, but now things are muddled as Bosco beat Bergen Catholic for the New Jersey Non-Public Group 4 title, 42-14.

The debate now really can heat up as to which team should be No. 1. Earlier this year, the chatter was already evident.

Mentioning the play-by-play from Friday's title-game win would simply take too long. Suffice it to say, the Shamrocks dominated like they have all year.

It's been a string of blowouts this year, with the exception of Trinity's closest victory, a 17-7 triumph at St. Xavier (Cincinnati) on Sept. 16. Trinity's next-closest victory was a 36-14 whipping of Indianapolis Cathedral. On the year, the Shamrocks outscored their opponents 697-116.

The title is the school's 21st and this was the seventh-straight year Trinity battled in the Commonwealth Bowl.
