Baseball Recap: Dora Comes Up Short

While it was Dora who put the first points on the board on Saturday, it was West Morgan who put up more. The Dora Bulldogs came up short against the West Morgan Rebels, falling 16-6.

Ashton Skalnik was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Grayson Stephenson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Dora has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. The win was the fourth in a row for West Morgan, bringing their record for this year to 6-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dora will head out to square off against Fultondale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dora has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for West Morgan, they will take on Hatton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Hatton is on a three-game streak of home wins, West Morgan a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
