Preview: North Surry Greyhounds vs. Surry Central Golden Eagles

The North Surry Greyhounds will head out on the road to take on the Surry Central Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Surry is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Last Friday, North Surry strolled past Mount Airy with points to spare, taking the game 44-26. Given North Surry's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Mount Airy is ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Sadie Badgett, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Niston, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Surry Central was not quite North Wilkes' equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Surry Central in their matchups with North Wilkes: they've now lost four in a row.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Layla Wall, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Jenna Cave was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five steals.

North Surry is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Surry Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.

Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: North Surry have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Surry Central, though, as they've only made 26.4% of their threes this season. Given North Surry's sizable advantage in that area, Surry Central will need to find a way to close that gap.

North Surry strolled past Surry Central in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 61-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Surry since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
