Basketball Recap: Conemaugh Township Snaps 17-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Conemaugh Township entered their game against Portage on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Conemaugh Township Indians fell to the Portage Mustangs 44-40. The contest marked the Indians' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Conemaugh Township lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ethan Matera, who posted seven points along with 12 boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Matera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Dinyar, who had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Conemaugh Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Portage had a senior duo take command as Owen Gouse went 7 for 15 en route to 17 points and Trae Kargo went 7 of 17 on his way to 19 points. Kargo is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games.

Conemaugh Township's loss ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-5. As for Portage, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Conemaugh Township will head out to face off against United at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. United has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Portage has already played their next match (against Cambria Heights), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
