The East Bay Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Wharton Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
East Bay is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Leto: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Indians blew the Falcons out of the water with a 57-0 final score. The Indians' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Trey Alexander was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 72 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Gavin Altman was in the mix as well, providing East Bay with two scores.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for East Bay, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Comarion Anthony, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to East Bay's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Dorian Edwards was the leader with two. East Bay got some further help from Jowell Amador: he picked up a sack and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Wharton over Sickles in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Wildcats blew the Gryphons out of the water with a 54-7 final score. Considering the Wildcats have won three games by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Wharton found their leader in sophomore Jaden Quenga, who threw for 138 yards and four TDs on only 13 passes, and also rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown. Those four passing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Quenga. Hamilton Green was another key player, picking up 60 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Wharton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Mariano Rodriguez, Markeal Howard, and Quan Campbell picked up one apiece. Howard is becoming a predictor of Wharton's success: when he posts at least one interception the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Howard got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The win was the third in a row for Wharton, bringing their record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.7 points over those games. As for East Bay, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
East Bay beat Wharton 34-27 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Wildcats' Woo Greene, who picked up 124 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Indians to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
