The Lincoln North Star Navigators will face off against the Columbus Discoverers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lincoln North Star is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Lincoln North Star managed to slip by Pius X the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Navigators came up short against the Thunderbolts on Thursday, falling 12-6. It was the first time this season that the Navigators let down their fans at home.
Lincoln North Star saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jameson Lantz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Sam Schaefer was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Columbus ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Omaha Central. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Discoverers.
Karsten Killham looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also put up a walk, which was his first of the season.
At the plate, Quenton Gustafson was incredible, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Holys, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
Columbus' win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Lincoln North Star, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Columbus' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lincoln North Star has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Columbus, though, as they've only averaged .359. Will they be able to contain Lincoln North Star's hitters?
Lincoln North Star came out on top in a nail-biter against Columbus when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Navigators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Discoverers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
