Basketball Game Preview: Sumrall Bobcats vs. Pass Christian Pirates

The Sumrall Bobcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Pass Christian Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pass Christian took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sumrall, who comes in off a win.

Sumrall will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Purvis, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Sumrall enjoyed a cozy 54-38 win over Purvis on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bobcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ella Robertson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 10 for 22 en route to 24 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Kynlee Speed was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Meanwhile, Pass Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Greene County, falling 63-41. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Wildcats are ranked 111th).

Pass Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Sumrall, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-13.

Sumrall skirted past Pass Christian 49-47 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumrall since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
