Recap: Oviedo Lions vs. Ocoee Knights
Even though the Ocoee Knights scored an imposing 60 points on Saturday, the Oviedo Lions still came out on top. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Oviedo made off with a 61-60 victory over Ocoee. Given Oviedo's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Ocoee is ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oviedo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Harper, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenten Wollmer, who scored 10 points along with 3 steals.
When it comes to explaining why Ocoee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Justynn Thomas. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Justin Smith was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Oviedo and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Ocoee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Oviedo will head out on the road to face off against Lake Howell at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ocoee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Legacy Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Legacy Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
