Softball Recap: New Holstein Huskies vs. Valders Vikings

After losing to Valders the last time they met, New Holstein decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The New Holstein Huskies won by a run and slipped past the Valders Vikings 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for New Holstein.

Natalie Ziebell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Ziebell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances. Ziebell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Ziebell wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Meyer, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On Valders' side, Megan Hochkammer spent all 8.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

New Holstein is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. As for Valders, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.

New Holstein will head out on the road to face off against Mishicot at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mishicot will roll in looking for their 26th straight victory, something New Holstein surely won't give up without a fight. Valders does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
