Football Recap: Castaic Takes a Loss

Castaic extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were beaten by the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers 49-0. The Coyotes lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 21-10 score last time.

As for San Joaquin Memorial, they now have a winning record of 2-1. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Castaic is ranked 567th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Israel Griffin had a dynamite game, rushing for 162 yards and two scores on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. John Mahoney was in the mix too, providing San Joaquin Memorial with two TDs.

Looking ahead, Castaic will be playing in front of their home fans against Dominguez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they are taking a road trip to face off against Garces Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on the 13th.
