Preview: Lanier Bulldogs vs. Wingfield Falcons

The Lanier Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Wingfield Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

After a string of three wins, Lanier's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were beaten by Raymond 75-36. While losing is never fun, Lanier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Raymond is ranked fourth).

Wingfield suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-41 loss at the hands of Raymond. Wingfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-21.

The losing side was boosted by Peyton Sampson, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Arrington, who scored 19 points.

Lanier's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Wingfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-17.

Lanier was able to grind out a solid win over Wingfield in their previous meeting on January 5th, winning 58-51. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wingfield's Martavius Bennett, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Lanier still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
