Basketball Recap: Oxford Comes Up Short

Oxford has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 42-33 to the Hernando Tigers on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 59-49 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Leading Hernando to victory were Fran Kelly and Jaliyah Kelly. Fran posted 15 points and six steals, while Jaliyah earned 13 points along with five boards and four steals. Fran has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keristian Nevels, who had three points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Hernando, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Oxford will square off against DeSoto Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hernando, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-52 loss against Choctaw Central on the 4th.
