Baseball Recap: Hayward Takes a Loss

Hayward extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-15 in the process. They came up short against the San Leandro Pirates, falling 9-2. If the Farmers were looking for revenge after losing 8-2 to the Pirates when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hayward saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Duran, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

As for San Leandro, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On San Leandro's side, Gary Ferguson was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The Pirates are undefeated when Ferguson posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Mario Marrero was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: San Leandro beat Hayward by a score of 3-2 on Friday.
