The biggest upset of the week belonged to Topsail, who took down 153rd ranked Clinton, 28-14.
The Pirates moved up to 185 from 225 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A East Central. Topsail climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-14 win over the Dark Horses.
Swansboro's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chris Phipps threw for eight yards and Markuise Hemby had eight yards receiving. On the ground Deandre Thompkins chipped in 137 yards. Chandler Harrington helped Swansboro's passing attack out by catching one ball for seven yards.
Swansboro's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Phipps has thrown for 259 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Hemby has four catches for 75 yards. Thompkins leads the league in rushing with 915 yards.
The Pirates' Thompkins needs only 85 yards against South Lenoir next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when East Duplin takes on Clinton. As it stands, the Panthers are in second, while Steve Mallard's team is in fifth.
There should be lots of points scored when Swansboro and the Blue Devils face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Tim Laspada's team comes in having scored 145 this season, while South Lenoir has scored 101. The Pirates scored 7 points last week as they fell to Richlands.
Northside extended the longest winning streak in 2A East Central this week by beating Tim Jenkins' team, 35-3. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Monarchs.
