Baseball Game Preview: Eagle Valley Devils vs. Battle Mountain Huskies

For the first time this season, Eagle Valley will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will face off against the Battle Mountain Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Eagle Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Eagle Valley turned things around against Weld Central on Friday. They put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 9-1 win.

James Bivins made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Eagle Valley's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Bivins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Anthony Ehlert was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jackson Woodworth also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Eagle Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Battle Mountain's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against Gunnison, falling 13-3.

Kai Tipton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Battle Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Eagle Valley, their record now sits at 2-5.
