Preview: Upson-Lee Knights vs. Carver Tigers
Upson-Lee has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Carver Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Upson-Lee had no problem doing just that on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 46-45 photo finish over Savannah Country Day.
Upson-Lee found their leader in underclassman Nicholas Wells, who threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Upson-Lee also got help from Bentavious Reviere who showed off his sure hands for 112 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Carver waltzed into Friday's matchup with five straight wins but they left with six. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 40-2 win over Academy of Richmond County. The result was nothing new for Carver, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Carver can attribute much of their success to Jacobie Hunter, who threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of De'ante Childs, who rushed for 114 yards on only eight carries.
Their wins bumped Upson-Lee to 9-2 and Carver to 8-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Upson-Lee has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 221.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Carver struggles in that department as they've been even better at 254.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Upson-Lee was dealt a bruising 39-0 defeat at the hands of Carver in their previous meeting back in November of 2022.
