Basketball Recap: New Iberia Takes a Loss

New Iberia was the 39-37 winner over Zachary when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The New Iberia Yellowjackets fell 51-38 to the Zachary Broncos on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Broncos are ranked second).

Xavier Ferguson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Zachary, going 10 for 17 on his way to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The match was Ferguson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambren Price, who posted three points and seven rebounds.

New Iberia's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Zachary, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

It'll be a Battle of the Bugs the New Iberia Yellowjackets face off against the Franklin Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Zachary, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-42 win against A.J. Ellender on the 20th.
