Football Recap: John Paul II Takes a Loss + How To Watch

John Paul II extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-4. The matchup between the Cardinals and the Dallas HSAA Angels didn't end well, with the Cardinals falling 35-16. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 34-14 to the Angels when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cade Lynch threw for 159 yards and one touchdown. Aj Anderson was his top target, picking up 67 receiving yards.

As for Dallas HSAA, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.75 yards per carry in those games compared to only 0.92 in the others.

Dallas HSAA got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ethan Smith out in front who threw for 312 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 35 yards and one score. Smith's passing game has become a key predictor of the Angels' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Colin Rooney was another key back, gaining 133 total yards and a touchdown.

John Paul II will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Coram Deo Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Cardinals will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games. As for Dallas HSAA, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Atlas HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 999 yards in their previous games.
