Baseball Recap: Seven Straight Road Wins for Union City

After having lost a blowout in their previous game, Union City was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with a 13-10 victory over the St. Peter's Prep Marauders. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Soaring Eagles considering their one-run performance the game before.

The team relied heavily on Wilme Mas Sarda, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristian Mejia, who went 4-for-5 with one home run and five RBI.

Mas Sarda wasn't the only one making solid contact: Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Union City's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for St. Peter's Prep, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Union City will face off against rival Hudson Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, St. Peter's Prep is set to take on their familiar foe Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Marauders 4, the Tigers 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
