Volleyball Recap: Winthrop Comes Up Short

Winthrop was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Stoneham Spartans. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Stoneham, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.

Winthrop and Stoneham could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Vikings will face off against Swampscott at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (274 vs. 112). Meanwhile, Stoneham (ranked 190th) will meet Burlington (ranked 39th) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
