Preview: Maconaquah Braves vs. Tri-Central Trojans
After three games on the road, Maconaquah is heading back home. They will take on the Tri-Central Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Maconaquah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Maconaquah came up short against Oak Hill and fell 39-28.
Maconaquah's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bailey Carson, who scored 9 points, and Shaelyn Powell who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds. Carson scored a full 32.1% of Maconaquah's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Tri-Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Clinton Prairie on Tuesday, taking the game 46-37.
Tri-Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Autumn Hurt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Layla Keith was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 4 steals.
Maconaquah's victory bumped their season record to 3-5 while Oak Hill's defeat dropped theirs to 7-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Maconaquah have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tri-Central struggles in that department as they've been even better at 23.4 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
