Basketball Recap: Macey Pugh and Taylor Gibbs Secure Win for Cascade

Cascade extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 3-1. They took down the Speedway Sparkplugs 45-27. The Cadets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Sparkplugs, too.

Cascade was led to victory by Taylor Gibbs and Macey Pugh. Gibbs went 7-for-14 to rack up 17 points and five boards, while Pugh almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Those 17 points gave Gibbs a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Thompson, who posted five points in addition to seven assists and four steals.

Cascade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

As for Speedway, they now have a losing record of 2-3. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Despite the loss, Speedway still got an impressive performance from Madelynn Matelic, who earned 13 points along with eight boards and seven steals. Matelic is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last four games she's played. Abby Noblet also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cascade will challenge Tri-West Hendricks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Speedway, they will head out to challenge Covenant Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
