Basketball Recap: Thompson Valley's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

It was a good run, but Thompson Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timnath Cubs.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Gibbs, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and five blocks. Justee Durtsche was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Thompson Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Timnath to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tiana Guzman, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Guzman has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Zadeh, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Thompson Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Timnath, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Roosevelt the next time they take the court. Timnath will head out to face Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Thompson Valley will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
