Baseball Recap: Oregon Comes Up Short

Oregon had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-14-1 to make it eight. They lost 17-11 to the Lutheran Crusaders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (ten), the Hawks still had to take the loss.

As for Lutheran, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.

For Lutheran's part, Jaxson Schwanebeck was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Schwanebeck is becoming a predictor of the Crusaders' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Tre Wasemiller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Oregon will look to defend their home field on Friday against Rockford Christian at 4:30 p.m. Lutheran will be paying especially close attention to the Hawks' game: after the Hawks face off against the Royals, they'll take on Lutheran again at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
