Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Falls Despite Big Games from Annabelle Quiroga and Dora Medina

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Sunnyside couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the Gilbert Tigers on Tuesday, falling 57-34. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meetings.

Dora Medina and Annabelle Quiroga certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Medina posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Quiroga scored 11 points and three steals. What's more, Quiroga also posted a 57% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in November of 2024.

It was another big night for Aspen McClees, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards for Gilbert. McClees is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Contessa Ivy, who put up 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Sunnyside's defeat dropped their record down to 28-4. As for Gilbert, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

Sunnyside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gilbert, they have already played their next match, a 56-54 loss against Hamilton on the 8th.
