The Godby Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Westover Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Westover took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Godby, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Godby was able to grind out a solid victory over Crossroad Academy, taking the game 68-56. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Godby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Logan Rose, who posted ten points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Butler, who put up nine points.
Meanwhile, Westover unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Monroe by a score of 41-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered against the Golden Tornadoes since February 2, 2021.
Godby will have to contain Greg Williams as he made an impact in Westover's last game. He went 8 of 9 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. That's the most points Williams has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Reese, who posted four points.
Westover's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Godby, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Godby hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.4 points per game. However, it's not like Westover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.8 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Godby couldn't quite finish off Westover when the teams last played back in November of 2024 and fell 56-54. Can Godby avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
