Softball Recap: Malone Comes Up Short

Malone and Poplar Springs squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Malone had to settle for second. They fell 8-5 to the Atomics. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Atomics earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Arielle Dickens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anoshua Wesley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariah Dickens, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Malone's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Poplar Springs, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-8.

As of now, neither Malone nor the Atomics have any future games scheduled.
