Basketball Recap: Wyatt Kirch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rampart over Doherty

Rampart lost against Doherty back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Rampart Rams received a blow as they fell 83-69 to the Doherty Spartans. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by exactly 14 points.

Rampart's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Kirch, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. Kirch continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Elias Bishop was another key player, going 7-for-11 en route to 17 points.

It was another big night for Elijah Mack, who went 11-for-16 to rack up 26 points in addition to seven assists and five boards for Doherty. Mack is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Javar Harrison, who went 7-for-10 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Rampart and nudges their season record down to 10-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-4 Liberty (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66% over those games). As for Doherty, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Rampart wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-35 win against Fountain-Fort Carson on the 10th. As for Doherty, they have also already played their next game, a 52-49 victory against Liberty on the 14th.
