Basketball Recap: Newport Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Newport Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 77-59 fall against the Campbell County Camels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thoroughbreds of the 74-50 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Campbell County was led to victory by Austin Davie and Garyn Jackson. Davie went 9-for-14 en route to 24 points and seven rebounds, while Jackson went 10-for-11 on his way to 20 points and seven boards. The match was Davie's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Lucas Anthrop was another key player, putting up ten points.

Newport Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Campbell County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Coming up, Newport Central Catholic will face off against Dayton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Newport Central Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Campbell County, they have already played their next match, a 56-48 victory against St. Henry on the 18th.
