Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McNicholas Rockets vs. Dixie Heights Colonels

The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will venture away from home to square off against the Dixie Heights Colonels at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Archbishop McNicholas will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Archbishop McNicholas is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Carroll with a sharp 14-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Nate Colyer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

In other batting news, Connor Powderly was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

Archbishop McNicholas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Dixie Heights' offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 1-0 to Scott, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Colonels just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Archbishop McNicholas' record now sits at 4-2. As for Dixie Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7-1.

Archbishop McNicholas came out on top in a nail-biter against Dixie Heights in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
