Softball Recap: Mona Shores Wins Going Away Against Montague

Mona Shores not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19th (when they won 11-1). They put the hurt on the Montague Wildcats with a sharp 12-2 win. This was payback for the Sailors, who suffered a 15-14 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lilli Baskin was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Maddy Faught was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Michelli, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Mona Shores always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mona Shores moved to 6-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Montague, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mona Shores will square off against Muskegon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Montague, they will challenge Oakridge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
